The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) Trust Fund

Over 20 years ago a group of members gathered together in the RUSI and considered ways that the RUSI could be financially assisted to broaden community knowledge of things military, support related studies, and repair or purchase items that the Department of National Defence would not cover. Distinguished members like the late Colonel Jack Jameson, the late Flying Officer Lionel Hastings and a dozen others conceived the idea of establishing a RUSI Trust Fund.

The RUSI Trust Fund was duly incorporated and established as a ‘registered charity’. It has had a number of responsible members, and friends of the Institute, step forward to administer the fund and it continues its good work on behalf of the RUSI to this day. Improvements like painting, carpeting, bathroom repairs, kitchen repairs and improvements to the games room and the bar area and scholarships have all come from the Fund.

To continue to accomplish these important objectives requires financial resources. Your donations to the Royal United Services Institute Trust Fund are a major source of support and will do much to allow us to continue to carry on the important work done by the Royal United Services Institute.

Many persons have made charitable donations to the Trust Fund over the years and many families have requested that donations in memory of their loved ones who were former members of the RUSI should be made to the Trust Fund. The largest single donation was made by the estate of Manfred Piefke when $10,000 was donated to the Trust Fund.

Contributions can be made as:

  • cash donations;
  • memorial bequests and donations from estates, families and friends; and
  • “in kind donations”, particularly as books and other resources for the library and as well, capital equipment and furnishings for the Institute.

The RUSI recognizes such donations by plaques on which names of donors are inscribed. These adorn the walls at the entrance to the RUSI. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) recognizes them as income tax deductible donations. We are a registered charity.

To be recognized for the 2012 tax year, donations must be received at the RUSI office not later than 31 December 2012. Please make cheques or money orders payable to the Royal United Services Institute Trust Fund. Cash donations need to be accompanied by a covering letter or card specifying that the donation is for the Trust Fund. As well, we are in a position to accept your financial donations through Interac or credit card. However, it would be necessary for you to come to the RUSI personally as our machine is chip activated.

For more information on the RUSI Trust Fund, or if you are interested in making a donation in kind e.g. books for the library, contact the RUSI Office by telephone at 306-757-8405 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
