Decoration Day 2024

Military sentries march on.

This is your opportunity to be a Sentry at the Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 Decoration Day Sentries Ceremony at Victoria Park in Regina. Applications will open on April 1st and close on May 22nd, 2024.

There are 96 positions available for ordinary civilians and community leaders who want to take a public role in remembering and honouring those who have served in Canada’s armed forces. Those selected to be Sentries will each take a turn to stand alongside military personnel for 15-minutes of sentry duty at the Cenotaph at an assigned time during the Decoration Day afternoon.

Adults and youths are welcome to apply. Dress code is to wear what is appropriate for the occasion, and particularly for the weather on that day, because the event is held outdoors.

If you are unable to stand for 15 minutes, please let us know what alternate arrangements may be needed.

You do not have to be a resident of Regina to apply.

Sentries may wish to hold an item of memory and commemoration. For example, some may bring an article such as a family member’s photo or medals. We can also provide Sentries with a memorial card that honours an individual soldier whose life was lost in service. It is not necessary to carry an object.

The Sentries Ceremony is a project of the Royal United Services Institute of Regina.
